The toner market
Photoshop SecretPhotoshop Tennis'!'! It's actually discussed in the book, Photoshop Secrets of the Pros. For those who have no idea about this thing, .....
In Incartekspressions 3 we looked at the inkjet market. Here are a few notes on the laser market.
First there let's look at three product areas:
1. Office monochrome laser. 2. Office colour laser 3. Production laser.
I do not intend to look at the production laser business. However as far as output, 5% of the installed base of laser printers produce 86% of all of the pages! Production laser challenges offset - particularly for smaller runs.
Colour laser (or should we say colour capable laser), since a very large proportion of pages printed in a normal office environment are monochrome is an interesting market challenging inkjet. Please see my comments on the selection process below.
PhotographyPhotography comes from the Greek words meaning 'light writing' and first became known back in 1839 by Sir John Herschel. For many years ..... Colour - whilst colour laser printers represent only 11% of the installed laser cartridge base now, and with monochrome printers still being shipped in quantity - especially as multi-function devices, only 20% of laser printers will be colour by 2009. However the value of the market supplies is much more - 28% to 41%
The toner cartridge market is growing - from $21bn in 2005 to $36bn by 2009 - a 9.5% annual growth. This compares with the inkjet market (see incartekspressions 3) which is growing from $27bn to $39bn for inkjet cartridges - a similar size and similar growth rate, but for different reasons.
Why: - because there are more multifunction devices and it appears that due to copying, more pages are printed on multi- than single- function machines. (1.8 vs. 1.1 cartridge per year),
Auto ExposureThe digital camera being a fantastic and technologically advanced device contains many different ..... - because a colour print can be up to 90% coverage - text is typically 5%.
In spite of the low consumption per year - Lyra shows the aftermarket - remanufactured or compatible products growing from 30 to 36% over the period. Of course the empties market remains critical.
