The signage market is hot
An Online Photo Service FailsOctOPUS blog November 2007 On-line photo services go out of business. This one backed did will yours be next? PhotoTLC's venture ..... - If the exhibition cycle is what to go by it had been the office products area. In May the shows have been in signage - display and wide format printing.
- Is this of interest to people outside of the trade: erstwhile screen printers, graphic designers and publicity companies? Maybe it is not - but there are indications which point to where some future business opportunities might lie.
- The battle is not inkjet vs. laser. In fact inkjet technology dominates, except where high speed is needed (and inkjet is getting faster). It is solvent vs. aqueous inkjet and within the latter UV-cure vs. pigment. Solvents have their advantages - costs, work better with vinyl and generally can be used in faster, purpose built machines, of which there are many. However they are smelly and corrosive. The smell in Hall 9 of FESPA was overpowering, as is often a visit to a company whose business depends on solvents. (No doubt the employees get used to it!).
A news item - the US Govt has put a 250% anti-dumping tax on art canvas from China. That is why the Chinese companies are desperate to sell their products in Europe.
